Position paper presentations

During the presentations i thought that the presentation on human trafficking was very interesting. I didn't know that it was still such a large problem. I also was very surprised when the presenter stated that wal-mart uses human trafficking and thats how they keep their prices so low. This really made me think that the world is still involved in some older crimes that can be much worse than any other modern day crimes committed today. It make me feel that wal-mart is not such a helpful company and makes me think of the victims of human trafficking every time i think of wal-mart.

Medical Marijuana Legalization Lowers Teen Use.

I am researching the legalization of marijuana for medical use. I feel it is a very contriversial topic and is also very current. At first I thought that the legalization of marijuana would be very bad making it to easy for people who really dont need it and for teen to get the drug. I recently read an artical that stated the 8 out of the 10 states that had legalized marijuana by 2006 saw a decrease of teen use in mariuana from 1999 to 2006. At first I was suprised and thought it would be the opposite but then i realized that once something becomes more availible it stops to become something special that they shouldn't have and that most people don't have, but once anyone can get it then they realize that it is accualy really bad for them and they will stop using it. I thought this was very interesting and really made me think.

PLN 4

I read an article from my Google reader(http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_14306140?source=rss) about CSU hiring a vice president that is trying to increase the diversity of the university. I think that this is good because a lot of students go to college only knowing the diversity that lived in the area where they were school as a youth. I think that it has the potential for people to get more experience with different types of people and how they live and work. If anything it is a chance to meet other people and experience different types of cultures.

In the book "Anthem" by Ayn Rand there is conflict with the main character and the world around him. There are many different types of conflict in this book. There is Man Vs. Society, which is probably the biggest conflict. The main character has to be a part of a society where everyone is exactly the same and no one gets anything of their own. He has to deal being only a part of the greater cause and not an individual. Equality now that he has broken away and found the underground area and discovered the light now realizes for the first time that he is an individual and that he is different. He has to go against the whole society now that he is no longer part or the society himself for they will try to take him down and do all they can to stop the different people.

Secretary at Denver school charged in duct taping of boy

I read a story of a Denver school secretary that duct taped a boy's mouth shut and binding his hands. She did this because the boy was being rowdy. The lady will get fired but it is a good thing this was noticed and dealt with correctly.
If she had not been fired she could have done it a second time. Having someone that acts like that is not someone that should be around children. It really surprise me that a grown women would do something so immature. It is just interesting how different people would react to different situations. Other people should care about this to. If it is not your kid than that doesn't mean you don't have to care. Think of how you would feel if it was your child or of just if it was any human being. It is not that the woman did it on purpose, she was trying to calm the student. I'm sure she did not mean any harm but only didn't think of the preclusions.

Richard Connell’s “The most Dangerous Game” is about a famous hunter from New York. The hunter falls off of a boat and end up on an island with a man that hunts other men for fun. He is befriended by the man and then the man decides to hunt the other hunter as a competition. The New Yorker gains his freedom again by surviving the game for 3 days. This is kind of like the world we live in today. People try to help other people only to get close to the person so that they can take them down. Lots of people lose something by trusting someone that they don’t know or wouldn’t normally trust. For example, someone goes to the mall and is convinced by a total stranger to buy or do something. As the person is doing that they are tricked and manipulated into doing something that they don’t know or want to do.
